Remember when shag rugs and shag carpeting was a cultural staple during the disco era of the 1970s? And remember that they only came in the most obnoxious colors, like brick orange and swamp green? Aside from the strange color choices, no one could really deny the softness and comfort that made shag rugs and carpeting popular. With that said, shag rugs are making a strong comeback in the home decorating market and why wouldn’t they? Unlike ordinary rugs, shag rugs add that extra pop in style for any home.

No longer are consumers limited to just atrocious looking colors when they’re shopping for shag rugs. With colors that line the entire spectrum of the Pantone rainbow, finding the right rug for your home has never been easier. Additionally, shag rug designs aren’t just limited to one solid color; stripes, patterns and even tie dye patterns are the newest rage in contemporary rug artistry.

Still, there are some people out there who only consider shag rugs as a nostalgic novelty, and that’s fine. But for those who are a bit adventuresome in their home decorating details, shag rugs make for great pop out design elements for any home. As area rugs that lay underneath coffee tables or beds, these specialty rugs add a touch of texture and style that highlight key furniture pieces within the home. If you have a monochromatic color scheme in a particular room, like your living room for instance, adding a large shag rug in the center of the room in a bold color such as red or purple will bring your attention to the center. Unless you’re not looking to go for such a bold look, cream colors and grays will work just as well.

Let’s face it, shag rugs brought about a cultural and design revolution. No longer are they considered the revolting rugs that you couldn’t wait to throw out at the end of the year and no longer do they fall apart quite as easily. With better machine and handmade piling techniques, an assortment of colors and patterns, shag rugs are making a comeback.. vintage turkish rugs
